Harriet Farmer - CBP Community Founder/CEO

Harriet Farmer, Creator/Author, and Founder of Choir Boy Productions, Inc., is a native of Charlotte, NC where she began a love of music at the early age of 3. Her mother taught her songs of childhood favorites that she performed at church, where she also sang in children and youth choirs. Harriet began singing solos at the age of three (along with dancing and modeling), singing solos in her church choir and local community chorales, performing in local musical theatre. She began studying piano at the age of 8, performing in regional and state competitions, Judges rating her performances with Superior scores, giving solo recitals, accompanying her church and school choirs, professional area choral groups, and performing in the community during the Holiday season. At the age of 14 she began studying classical voice, singing in community choral groups, during high school professionally recording vocal music radio commercials for Arthur Smith Studios, performing in Regional vocal competitions where Judges scored her with Superior ratings. The Summer before her Sophomore year at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC (https://schools.cms.k12.nc.us/eastmecklenburgHS/Pages/Default.aspx ), Harriet toured Europe and Russia with the singing group, Good News Singers of America. The Good News Singers of America was a group, and trip, specially organized by the U.S. Government in response to an Invitation extended by the Russian Government to improve relations between the two countries. As a Senior in High School, Harriet's high school Choir Director, Charles Starnes, gave her an application to the Miss Teenage America Pageant (a Subsidiary of the Miss America Pageant https://www.missamerica.org/), asking her to enter as a Contestant where she became a Finalist in the Pageant singing "One Kiss" from the musical, New Moon, for her pageant Talent competition.  

 

Harriet attended Queens University of Charlotte (https://www.queens.edu/ ), studying Early Childhood Education & Psychology, and is an Alumni of Brevard Music Center (https://www.https://www.brevardmusic.org/ ), where she focused on training in Classical Piano and Voice studying voice with Metropolitan Opera Tenor, Bill McDonald (https://youtu.be/0B7Yi5eyUDI ). Harriet studied piano with Harriette Line Thompson (https://youtu.be/hTv9AcmDeQg ). Harriet, has 15 years of experience performing in Local, State and Regional Piano, Voice and Choral events, has directed  Preschool age children choirs and private Catholic school chorus (Grades 7 - 12), and has over 5 years of experience as a Teacher of private studio piano lessons to ages Preschool through Adult, domestically in the U.S (North Carolina and Georgia), and internationally in Asia (Thailand). 

 

While living in Bangkok, Thailand Harriet worked, pro bono, with a Thai Cottage Industry helping them ready their unique hand crafted product for export. She introduced samples of the unique product she named "Flowers by Sakorn" (after their creator, Sakorn, a Thai Military officer), to a five-star hotel in Bangkok offering them, at no-cost, the flower stems to place on hotel guest's pillows during the week of Valentine's Day. The hotel management and staff were so taken with this unique Cottage Industry product they hosted a 10-Day Exhibition at the hotel, for the Valentine's Day Holiday, where Harriet and the Cottage Industry, Flowers by Sakorn; made the flowers, sold the finished product and collected custom product orders for shipment from international visitors from countries in Asia and Europe. The Thai princess, HRH Princess Soamsawali, Royal Consort of His Royal Highness Crown Prince aha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, visited the hotel’s Flowers by Sakorn Exhibition showing her support for this Thai Cottage Industry. Harriet and her oldest daughter, Healey, were presented to Her Royal Highness and gifted HRH with a bouquet of flowers by Sakorn. Thai Media visited the 10-day Exhibition; Radio, TV and the Bangkok Post newspaper, interviewing Sakorn and taking pictures of Harriet, Healey, HRH Princess Soamsawali, the Cottage Industry members, and the flowers. A picture of Healey with HRH Princess Soamsawali holding a bouquet of Sakorn's Cottage Industry flowers, along with a feature article, appeared on the front page of the Bangkok Post newspaper. From the publicity surrounding the 10-Day Exhibition, Harriet received an engraved invitation from the International Board of Trade, inviting her to attend their Annual Conference in Kuala Lumpur that year and bring the flowers to share with the Conference Attendees how she readied this Thai Cottage Industry for international export.

 

Harriet is a Member of Who’s Who in American Women, nominated by her fellow IT professional colleagues to receive this honor. She has been a Member of multiple Advisory Boards focused on Public Education, Curriculum/Instructional Design, Bill Gates’ National Academy Foundation- IT, Workforce Development and Career/Technical/Adult Education.  Harriet was recognized for "Outstanding Achievement" by the Broward County School System of Florida for her work with; the Bill Gates NAF-IT program and the Junior Achievement Career Development Program in the County's High School CTAE, DECA and Inner City “At-Risk” Teens degree programs/students where her work was sponsored by American Express. She spent 20-years working in corporate America in Information Technology; consulting on projects up to $100M and managing IT modernization projects up to $7M, as a consultant implementing all phases of complex ERP back-office systems for Tier 1 corporations, writing Technical Documentation and Training Curriculums [Pre/Post Skills Assessments, Learning Objectives, Curriculum Content Development (classroom, LMS, CBT, WBT, Independent Study)]; and, creating/writing End-User Testing Scripts, Creating/Writing System End-User Reports, Creating Data/Business Process Flow Charts/Analysis, Performing Business Process Improvement Analysis; and, as a Business Development Manager and Vice President consulting with companies that provide implementation services to develop infrastructure and sales/marketing programs to grow their business, developing new client relationships and writing contracts up to $7,000,000. Her average annual Gross Sales Revenue performance was $7,500,000.  From 1998-2004, Harriet owned her own IT Consulting business, Learning Smart, Inc. servicing Tier 1 corporations working on large complex back office system implementations focused on Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay Financials and Procurement. Her IT Consulting partial client list includes; Alcon (a Novartis Company), Ernest & Young, the Social Security Administration, Boeing, US Bank, National Security Agency, US Mint, US Air Force, US Department of Education, US Department of State, Fire Arms Training Systems, City of New York-Housing & Preservation Development Agency, AT&T Federal, State Farm Insurance, Eckerd Drug Stores, Ameren UE, MasterCard, Visa SA, Florida Power & Light, Piedmont Natural Gas, Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo).

 

Harriet had two adult daughters who shared her love of music. Her oldest daughter was a Professional Opera singer and Vocal Coach, Summa Cum Laude graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (https://www.siu.edu/ ) with a B.S. Degree, Music-Opera Performance, and obtained a Master of Arts Degree, Opera Performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music (https://sfcm.edu/ ).  Harriet’s younger daughter completed 4 years of high school in 5 months through an independent study program at the Regionally Accredited Illinois Educational Institution Est. 1897, The American School, (https://www.americanschoolofcorr.com/ ) graduating with a 4.0 GPA, then enrolling in college at the age of 15 focusing on studies in Science and Mathematics.
